Their First Lacrosse Game

Apr. 24, 2026

There’s something special about a first game, and at the U7 level, it’s not about the score, the standings, or even the outcome. It’s about the moment.

This weekend, our youngest Wizards take the floor for their season opener jamboree, and it’s hard to overstate just how meaningful that first whistle really is.

For weeks now, these 5-6 year olds have been learning the basics: how to hold a stick, how to scoop a ball, how to move as part of a team. Practices have been full of laughter, learning curves, and small wins that don’t always show up on a scoreboard. But now, they get to experience something new: a game.

And that first game? It’s magic.

It’s the moment when everything starts to click (not perfectly, not all at once...) in flashes. A loose ball gets chased with full effort. A pass almost connects. A player remembers where to line up. These are the building blocks of confidence, and they matter more than any goal ever could.)

There’s also something incredibly powerful about the energy surrounding these games. The stands are filled with proud parents, siblings, and supporters, all cheering with a kind of enthusiasm that only comes with watching kids try something new. Every shift is celebrated. Every effort is noticed. The noise, the encouragement, the smiles. It all creates an environment where kids feel safe to try, to fail, and to try again.

That’s where the real growth happens.

For many of these players, this will be their first-ever lacrosse game. That means firsts across the board: first time wearing a jersey in a game setting, first time stepping onto the floor with teammates, first time hearing their name from the stands. These moments stick. They’re the ones kids remember when they think back on why they fell in love with the sport.

And while the game itself might look like a whirlwind of motion — sticks swinging, feet moving, everyone chasing the ball at once — there’s something deeper happening underneath it all. They’re learning what it means to be part of a team. They’re beginning to understand that effort matters, that supporting your teammates matters, and that showing up together is what makes the experience so rewarding.

This weekend isn’t about perfection. It’s about participation.

It’s about the excitement in the changeroom, the nervous energy before stepping onto the floor, and the pride that comes after, no matter how the game goes. It’s about building a foundation. Not just of skills, but of confidence, connection, and love for the game.

So as our U7 Wizards take that first step into game play, we celebrate all of it: the chaos, the effort, the smiles, and the memories being made in real time.

Because every great lacrosse journey starts somewhere.

And this is where theirs begins.
