Be a part of the fastest game on two feet! Earn some extra money, stay active, and deepen your knowledge of lacrosse by joining the officiating crew.
Lacrosse in Alberta is in trouble. There is an enormous lack of referees available for the games and tournaments that require them. Tournaments have been cancelled or put on hold due to this problem.
If you are a player, it helps you master the game, provides extra cardio which will benefit your game and it provides a boost in self confidence as there is nothing like going on to the floor and doing a job well done! It also is a well-paying part-time job. If you are an adult/parent it is an opportunity to give back, being involved in the sport without a heavy time commitment.
The Alberta Lacrosse Referees Association (ALRA) has made it extremely easy to be trained as a referee! You attend a Zoom session from the comfort of your home. In this you will learn the rules and game management, and then write a quiz. After this you attend an on-floor session where there is an abundance of help for teaching you the actual mechanics of refereeing a game. All of it is a very pressure and stress-free experience.
Please, if you are thinking about it, give it a try! Without you as a referee, there might be no game!
