The Respect in Sport (RIS) program is a series of online training courses designed to foster a global culture of respect by educating participants on how to prevent bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination (BAHD) in sports and other environments. The program offers different streams for parents, coaches, activity leaders, and officials to provide them with the tools to recognize and respond to these harmful behaviors, ultimately creating safer, more positive, and inclusive environments for children and all participants.
The Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council (GELC) has teamed up with Respect in Sport to support a positive "safe sport" culture and improve the sport experience for everyone involved. This convenient, 1-hour online course is designed to reinforce a parent’s role in their child's activities by encouraging positive behaviour and providing them with a safe and fun place to play the sports they love. The GELC believes that Respect in Sport initiatives align with our Mission Statement to have positive role models that create heathier communities through leadership and active contributions; to create positive life experiences through the sport of lacrosse; and to make decisions in the best interest of lacrosse to better the sport as a whole.
Respect in Sport certification is a mandatoryrequirement of the GELC and its associated clubs to register your child in lacrosse.
